Whether you are expecting a new baby, have recently moved to our area, or are looking for a new doctor for your children, we thank you for trusting us with your child’s health. Willow Tree Pediatrics welcomes new patients starting at birth to age 15. Established patients can be seen up to age 21 or through completion of college.
We are so excited that you are considering Willow Tree Pediatrics to be the medical home for your newborn! Below are some frequently asked questions for first time patients and parents.
I am expecting a new baby, when should I first contact Willow Tree Pediatrics?
Please contact Willow Tree Pediatrics by phone at least 1 month prior to your baby’s due date. We will confirm that we are able to accept your child based on insurance eligibility, etc. We will explain how we enroll new patients in our practice. Once your baby is born, please call the office before you are discharged to schedule your first appointment.
Can I fill out my new baby’s paperwork ahead of time?
We will send the new patient paperwork to you via the patient portal once your child has been born. We cannot add your baby to our system until we know their birthdate (not due date).
Who will see my baby at their first appointment?
We have 3 providers who can see your child at their newborn appointment. Dr. Heidi Blair, Sherry Davis CRNP, and Cindy Hawkins CRNP are all pediatric providers who we schedule newborn appointments with.
Will Dr. Blair see my baby in the hospital immediately after birth?
No, Dr. Blair does not do hospital rounds for newborns. The pediatric physician on call will see your baby. One of our providers will see your baby in the office within 3-5 days of discharge from the hospital for their newborn appointment.
How often will I have to bring my baby to the doctor?
We see infants at their newborn, 2-week, 1 month, 2-month, 4-month, 6-month, 9-month, 12-month, 15-month, 18-month, and 24-month visits. After age 2 we see children annually for well checks. Some infants may require additional visits to monitor jaundice, weight, feeding, and any additional medical conditions.
What do I need to bring to my newborn appointment at Willow Tree Pediatrics?
Please bring your driver’s license, insurance card, and newborn records provided by the hospital to your baby’s first appointment.
What will happen during my baby’s newborn appointment at Willow Tree Pediatrics?
We will take vital signs on your baby including height, weight, temperature, and head circumference. We will review your baby’s medical history and evaluate any medical conditions present. We will screen your infant for complications that may occur after birth. Typically, no shots are given at the newborn appointment unless the Hepatitis B shot was not given in the hospital.
Does Dr. Blair perform circumcisions?
Yes, Dr. Blair can circumcise male infants in the office. This is an outpatient surgery and is typically done at 1 week to 1 month of age. Dr. Blair only performs this service for established patients. We can schedule this for you when you check out at your newborn visit.
Well-child visits are a vital part of your child’s health care. These visits allow our providers to examine your child’s growth and development and to discuss age-specific health, behavior, and safety issues.
We understand that a child suddenly getting sick can be overwhelming for a parent. It is our goal to offer fast, successful care and same day appointments for your child. For same day appointments we ask that you call as early in the day as possible.
Preparing for your new baby is an exciting time! Our goal is to work together with you to keep your baby happy and healthy. We ask you call the day of hospital discharge to schedule a newborn visit within 3-5 days of discharge. For our providers and nurses to be well prepared, you must bring discharge information from the hospital to your appointment.
For more information about newborn visits, see our list of frequently asked questions.
We know that adolescence is challenging to navigate for teens as well as their parents, and we are here to help. During these years, patients will be encouraged to have a portion of the visit alone with their provider. This creates an opportunity for your child to advocate for their own health. We try to pay special attention to the personal needs, confidentiality and privacy of our adolescent patients.
Some chronic health conditions (such as asthma or allergies) and mental health conditions (such as ADHD, depression, and anxiety) require regular follow-ups and medication checks with your chosen pediatrician at least every 3 months, or more frequently based on a child’s individual situation.
We administer life-saving immunizations according to the recommended schedule. Information about childhood vaccines may be found at CDC.gov or Healthychildren.org. Our providers will be glad to answer any questions you have.
We also provide school sports physicals, cryotherapy wart removal and other minor dermatologic treatments, hearing and vision checks, and simple wound care.
